A scorching hot day turned out to be a pleasant and rainy day. Till around 4 p.m the atmosphere was fiercely hot, gradually there were winds and then they turned out really fierce resembling almost a windstorm. The earthy scent and the rain followed. The view from the lab windows was fascinating as all of us took a break to stick to the windows for enjoying the long awaited showers.
As today was Friday, time for seminars! Every Friday, one student at the institute has to give a presentation on review of one research paper of choice. So, today's presentation was on "Protein Targeting to Starch(PTST) is required for localizing Granule Bound Starch Synthase(GBSS) to starch granules and for normal Amylose synthesis in Arabidopsis" by Miss. Vinita Sharma (JRF).
It discussed an interesting theory of synthesis of amylose in starch grains.
The presentations are usually followed by interesting discussions and interactions between research scholars of the Institute.
Performed screening of 2 parents with 8 ssr primers for polymorphic primers by PCR. Again error today. We did not get proper results. Only one of the 8 primers showed polymorphism and other primers did not show any bands. Most probable error was improper pipetting while preparing reaction mixture. As Henry Ford quotes, " Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently." Later, spent the evening practicing pipetting with water and tried taking up very minute volumes. Hope, the practice helps in the next trials.
